One joule of work is said to be done when a force of one newton displaces a body through a distance of one metre in its own direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 joule = 1 newton \u00d7 1 metre or 1 J = 1 Nm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>(ii) Erg<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the absolute unit of work in CGS system. One erg of work is said to be done if a force of one dyne displaces a body through a distance of one centimetre in its own direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 erg = 1 dyne \u00d7 1 cm<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"relation-between-joule-and-erg\"><strong>Relation between joule and erg.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n<p>1 joule = 1 newton \u00d7 1 metre<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>= 10<sup>5<\/sup> dyne\u00d7 10<sup>2<\/sup> cm =10<sup>7<\/sup> dyne cm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>or&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1 joule = 10 erg<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"gravitational-units-of-work\">Gravitational units of work<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>Work is said to be done one gravitational unit if a gravitational unit of force displaces a body through a unit distance in the direction of the force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>(i) Kilogram metre:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the gravitational unit of work in SI. One kilogram metre of work is said to be done when a force of one kilogram weight displaces a body through one metre in its own direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 kg m = 1 kg wt \u00d7 1m = 9.8N \u00d7 1m<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>or 1 kg m = 9.8 J<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>(ii) Gram centimetre:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is gravitational unit of force in CGS system.
