A small piece of camphor put in clear water dances vigorously due to decrease of surface tension of water.<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ii-effect-of-solute\">(ii) Effect of solute:<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>(a) A highly soluble substance like sodium chloride increases the surface tension of water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(b) A sparingly soluble substance like phenol or soap reduces the surface tension of water.<\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"iii-effect-of-temperature\">(iii) Effect of temperature:<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>The surface tension of liquids decreases with increase of temperature.
