It was created in 1878 to curtail the freedom of the Indian press.<\/li><li><strong>Boycott:<\/strong> The refusal to deal and associate with people, participate in activities, or buy and use things; usually a form of protest.<\/li><li><strong>Inland Emigration Act:<\/strong> It was an Act through which plantation workers were not permitted to leave the tea gardens without permission.<\/li><li><strong>Satyagraha:<\/strong> A non-violent method used by Gandhiji against the oppressor.<\/li><li><strong>Khilafat movement:<\/strong> It was a movement by Indian Muslims allied with Indian Nationalists, led by the famous Ali brothers, Mohammed Ali and Shaukat Ali to protest against the injustice done to Turkey after World War I.<\/li><li><strong>Non-cooperation Movement:<\/strong> This movement was launched by Gandhiji in 1920. Its aims were to show the resentment to actions considered oppressive like Jallianwala Bagh and Rowlatt Act.<\/li><li><strong>Gandhi-Irwin Pact: <\/strong>It was an agreement signed in March 1931 under which the Civil Disobedience Movement was called off.<\/li><li><strong>Dandi March:<\/strong> Gandhiji, along with 78 of his followers, started from his Ashram at Sabarmati to Dandi on the sea coast on foot, and broke the salt law by making salt.<\/li><li><strong>Poona Pact: <\/strong>It was a pact which was signed between Gandhiji and Dr. B.R Ambedkar. The Pact gave the depressed classes reserved seats in provincial and central legislative councils.<\/li><li><strong>Nationalism: <\/strong>It involves a strong identification of a group of individuals with a political entity defined in national terms, i.e., a nation. A sense of national consciousness, exalting one nation above all others and placing emphasis on its development and prosperity.<\/li><li><strong>Colonisation: <\/strong>The action or process of settling among and establishing control over the indigenous people of an area.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong><span style=\"background-color:#fcb900\" class=\"has-inline-background\">Important Dates:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1917<\/strong> \u2013 Mahatma Gandhi launches the Champaran campaign in Bihar to focus attention on the grievances of \u2018indigo\u2019 planters in April.<br><strong>1919<\/strong> \u2013 Rowlatt Bill introduced on Feb 16, 1919.<br><strong>1919<\/strong> \u2013 The Jallianwala Bagh tragedy took place on 13th April in Amritsar.<br><strong>1920 <\/strong>\u2013 The Indian National Congress (INC) adopts the Non-Co-operation Resolution in December.<br><strong>1920-22<\/strong> \u2013 Mahatma Gandhi suspends Non-Co-operation Movement on Feb 12 after the violent incidents at Chauri Chaura.<br><strong>1922-23<\/strong> \u2013 \u2018Swaraj\u2019 Party was formed by Motilal Nehru and others on 1st January.<br><strong>1925<\/strong> \u2013 The Kakori Train Conspiracy case in August.<br><strong>1928 <\/strong>\u2013 Simon Commission arrives in Bombay on Feb 3. An All-India hartal was called on. Lala Lajpat Rai assaulted by police at Lahore.<br><strong>1929 <\/strong>\u2013 Lord Irwin announced that the goal of British policy in India was to grant the Dominion status to India. On 31st Oct. and Congress adopts the demand for \u2018Purna Swaraj\u2019.<br><strong>1930 <\/strong>\u2013 Mahatma Gandhi launches the Civil Disobedience movement with his epic Dandi March (Mar 12 to Apr 6). First phase of the Civil Disobedience movement: Mar 12, 1930 to Mar 5, 1931.<br><strong>1931 <\/strong>\u2013 On 5th March, the \u2018Gandhi lrwin\u2019 pact was signed and the Civil Disobedience movement was suspended.<br><strong>1931 <\/strong>\u2013 Bhagat Singh, Sukh Dev and Rajguru were executed on 23rd March.<br><strong>1932 <\/strong>\u2013 Gandhiji was arrested and imprisoned without trial on 4th January.<br><strong>1932<\/strong> \u2013 Gandhiji in jail, begins his epic \u2018fast unto death\u2019 against the Communal Award on 20th September and ends the fast on 26th of the same month after the Poona Pact.<br><strong>1935 <\/strong>\u2013 The Government of India Act 1935 was passed on 4th August.<br><strong>1939 <\/strong>\u2013 The Muslim League observes the resignation of the Congress ministries as \u2018Deliverance Day\u2019 on 22nd December.<br><strong>1942 <\/strong>\u2013 The INC meets in Bombay; adopts \u2018Quit India\u2019 resolution on 7th &amp; 8th August.<br><strong>1942 <\/strong>\u2013 Gandhiji and other Congress leaders were arrested on 9th August.<br><strong>1942 <\/strong>\u2013 Quit India movement begins on 11th of August; the Great August Uprising.<br><strong>1946 <\/strong>\u2013 Jawaharlal Nehru takes over as Congress president on 6th July.<br><strong>1947 <\/strong>\u2013 Lord Mountbatten, the last British Viceroy and Governor General of India, sworn in on 24th March<br><strong>1947 <\/strong>\u2013 Mountbatten Plan was made on 3rd June for the partition of India and the announcement was made on June 4th that transfer to power will take place on August 15th.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are providing&nbsp;Chapterwise Quick Revision Notes&nbsp;for Class 10 Social Science SST.
